Handwritten

"Now it shall come about when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in the presence of the Levitical priests. And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God, by carefully observing all the words of this law and these statutes, that his heart may not be lifted up above his countrymen and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or the left; in order that he and his sons may continue long in his kingdom in the midst of Israel."

Deuteronomy 17: 18-20

Have you considered handwriting your own copy of the Word?
I started with Psalms, then Proverbs, then worked my way slowly through the New Testament, filling several spiral notebooks. The slow, methodical, word-by-word progress through the Word was worth the time, filled with new insights. Highly recommended!

  1. This is the second time today I've had this practice recommended to me. How did you get started? What/Who inspired you?

  2. Years ago at a weekend women's conference with our church, where our speakers were each other, sharing what we knew, one of the gals passed out a brand new, fresh smelling spiral notebook to each of us. Then, she shared this verse, one of those hidden gems that is far too easy to skim over. Something happens in the process of copying out each word, step by step through the verses, the chapters, the books. In the past I have copied verses that speak to me, or seem significant, but this is different. A fascinating process, and I went on to fill many more spiral notebooks over the years. Try it, you'll like it. Wish I could send you a brand new, pages waiting to be filled, notebook.

  4. Maureen, what a great idea! I've memorized lots, but not written it down. You've also given me a new idea for my 3 little men! Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

  6. I've done it so often in the past. NOW, with the constant need to hit the computer stretch, that has mostly gone away. Sad, isn't it, how we have been overwhelmed in our cultural changes? Especially us non-techie or non-young-ish people. Need to write more often. Thanks for reminding and encouraging.

  7. Another blog I read recommended writing out the word. It's been floating around in my mind bugging me. I guess this is further confirmation that it is a very good thing to do and I need to do it! Thank you, Maureen.
