...Like No One is Listening

Some of you read Michael Hyatt's blog, Intentional Leadership; to you this quote will be familiar, but consider it a reminder rather than repetition. It is well worth repeating.

"Pray like no one's listening;
serve like no one's watching;
and give like no one's counting.
Be God's best kept secret."

-Bob Goff

I love to think of a scene in heaven where those receiving the highest honors will be the unknown little old ladies from trailer parks who couldn't get out to go to church, but who prayed faithfully, loved deeply and served willingly within their limited circumstances. The heart is the key: the question, "Why do we do what we do?"

  1. Maureen,
    You've given me something to contemplate today. Thank you.

    In 1986 God sent an eighty-year-old lady in my life who was full of prayer and generosity though she was without means. She lived below us in a second floor flat when we lived in the third floor flat - along the busy London Road of England. I was lonely and in a strange place with two little children. She was like an angel to me, popping in with homemade tarts and a cheery chat. Your post brought her to mind.

  2. Thanks Karen, your comment is encouraging. I enjoy reading of your London days - I'm working through my dogeared C.M. Companion now, planning for this school year, being inspired and challenged by your words.

  3. Love this post, Maureen. You ask good questions! Actually, I've been thinking on that for quite some time - - - doing more thinking lately than writing. I wonder when I'll finally be grown up and have the answers ? :)
